Are you an accomplished herder looking for a facility to work your dog(s) or sheep? We offer handlers that open practice opportunity. Our facility offers you small pens, arenas, alleyways, fields and more to practice with your dog. Training times must be scheduled in advance. (623)363-7925. Cost $30/dog/hour.
A Herding Instinct Test is a simple test to determine whether or not your dog has the "instinct" required for herding. You cannot "make" a dog herd -- he has to want to do it. In the actual test, your dog is carefully introduced to a small flock of 3 sheep that are accustomed to working with dogs. Your dog needs no training before entering this test. We will take your dog into the arena on a leash. We start by walking in a big circle around the sheep to show him that the sheep will move away, there is no need to fear the sheep, and that excessive force isn't needed to make sheep move. Each dog handles this first encounter differently. During the instinct test our objective is to see if the dog is interested in working the sheep and is interested in following directions so he and you can do this as partners. "Chasing" sheep is not herding. Getting the sheep to move as a group in the direction you want them to go is herding. Cost is $25/dog
Introduction to Herding: offered by Maci McGraw contact 623-363-7925
Returning in fall of 2019......Introduction to herding is a two part class. First, the discussion of what the sport of herding is about, its history, the work and the handler/dog interaction. It is also an introduction into the various venues that herding has evolved into for competition. The second portion of introduction to herding is an instinct test and followup options for each dog. Only five individuals are allowed in each class to ensure quality time to help each person grasp the information into this amazing journey. Cost is $50/person. Don't have a dog and want to just learn about the sport? Come audit the class!
Swim Conditioning/Physical Therapy:
We have a 13x37' pool available for use in summer conditioning and physical therapy. Every summer we bring the pool back out and dogs are allowed to swim and jump off the deck. Come on out for splash time though. $10/dog/hour.
